Fly My Pretties
Auckland’s Sky City Theatre was the backdrop for my 2009 Fly My Pretties installment.
This was a visual and aural extravaganza, featuring promient New Zealand storyteller Dick Weir (Barnaby’s dad) reading a contemporary NZ story about the protection of the environment. This story was beautifully intertwined with music from the FMP collective that featured over 15 different musicians.
However it wasn’t until the second half and we heard classic FMP tracks such as `Bag of Money’ and `Lets Roll’ that the crowd really started interacting with the musicians. Many heading down the front of the stage as the songs increased in tempo.Barnaby Weir really has a unique concept with his Fly My Pretties, adding his dad as a storyteller was a risk, but was totally captivating and made the show for me.
